Police have arrested a 50-year-old man in Newcastle and charged him with sexually touching a high school student in NSW’s Hunter region.

Following reports of a 14-year-old girl being sexually touched by a male teacher during class, Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation in June.

Police say the man was taken to Waratah Police Station following extensive investigations and charged with intentionally sexually touching a child under 16 years.

In court, police will allege the teacher “sexually touched” the girl, who was 14 at the time, during class in April, 2019.

The man was granted strict conditional bail and will appear at Newcastle Local Court on Friday 5 July.
