NSW teacher charged after being filmed brawling with student in classroom

The wild classroom altercation between the 62-year-old male teacher and a teenage boy was filmed by another student.

Charges have been laid after a teenage student was caught on camera being allegedly assaulted by a male teacher at a NSW high school.

Footage of the incident on Tuesday was captured by several students at Maitland Grossmann High School, showing the teacher throwing paper balls back at the boy while confronting him at his desk.

The 62-year-old then says "come on mate" while trying to grab the teenager, who slaps his hand away, inciting a few laughs from students watching on.

However things escalate quickly as the teacher grabs the boy's shirt and pulls him over the desk, causing an uproar form other students who try to intervene. "You wanna f***ing touch him again?" one of the students yells while pushing the teacher away, who then asks his students to put their phones down.

A desk is thrown at the teacher, moments before the school bell rings and the pupils rush to leave the class.

The incident is not over yet, as the teacher is seen going after a boy who is approaching the door. He appears to strike the boy who falls to the floor, before the teacher steps out of the classroom.

62-year old teacher to front court for assault

Police confirmed officers from the from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were called to the Hunter Valley school at about 2pm on Tuesday, after reports of the alleged assault.

"The teenage boy was assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however, was not physically injured," a NSW Police spokeswoman said in a statement.

"About 9.30pm (Tuesday), a 62-year-old man was arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station, where he was charged with common assault."

The man was given conditional bail and is due to face Maitland Local Court on Thursday, April 6.
