New Zealand woman found alive but 'beat up' after vanishing three weeks ago

A woman in New Zealand has been found alive but reportedly "beaten" after vanishing three weeks ago.

Kayla Maree Pawa, 28 was last seen at a home on Auckland's North Shore on June 12, with her family fearing she had been kidnapped.

A relative told the New Zealand Herald police had informed her Kayla was "pretty beat up".

“She has been through some traumatic experiences and can’t yet make a statement to police,” she told the publication. “I know when I see her, she will break down."

The relative said it was a "big relief" Kayla had been found alive following her ordeal.

NZ Police confirmed a 28-year-old woman had been located but were unable to provide further details regarding what had happened.

"Further inquiries are currently under way into the incident, and at this stage we are not in a position to provide additional comment. A further update will be provided at a later stage," a police spokesperson said.

Prior to the discovery, police had expressed their concerns for her welfare. She remains under police protection.
