What new millionaires plan to do with $30 million lotto winnings

A number of Australians have spent their Sunday making big plans after taking home a division-one prize of more than $1.7 million from the $30 million Saturday Lotto Megadraw.

One of the 17 division-one winning entries was held by a couple from South East Melbourne who have decided to use their new-found riches to see the world.

“We will pay off our mortgage, share some with the kids and invest some to make it go further,” the Melbourne woman said on Sunday morning.

“But we have always dreamed of travelling the world endlessly.”

When she was initially told the good news, she could not stop laughing and was asking the official if it was true.

“This is a huge shock! You always hope and pray you are going to win, but you never really think it is going to happen,” she said.

More Melbourne winners

There were numerous other overjoyed winners from Melbourne.

One woman from northwest suburb of Strathmore said she bought the ticket in the hope of sharing her money with her family to help them out.

“I talk to my dog and I said to her this morning, ‘We haven’t got a call from TattsLotto yet, maybe next time’,” she said.

“But it goes to show, you never know do you?”

Meanwhile a Cranbourne North resident was left speechless when they got the life-changing news they had a division-one entry in Saturday’s draw.

“I woke up this morning and I got an email from the Lott saying I had won a significant amount,” the winner said.

“I checked my ticket and I said, ‘No, I can’t believe it. Six numbers straight’.”

The Cranbourne North winner hoped to buy a new home and share the winnings with their family.

A woman in her 20s, from Glen Iris, was another winner from Melbourne. She will be giving some money to her parents, plans to buy a new car and head on a European adventure.

Syndicate takes home division-one prize

Also in Victoria, there were 99 members of a syndicate entry who shared in a division-one prize.

The syndicate’s System 20 QuickPick entry also won division-three 84 times and division-four 1365 times – taking the total winnings to $1,900,896.14.

That leaves each member of the syndicate with a share worth $19,200.97.

Queenslanders win big

In Queensland, a hardworking Sunshine Coast couple screamed when a Golden Casket official told them they were $1.7 million richer on Sunday morning.

And the pair know exactly what they will do with the windfall.

“I only said to my husband yesterday, ‘When do you think we might be able to retire?’ We’ve worked hard all our lives but retirement’s always been far away,” the winning woman said.

“We’ve got kids and grandchildren so we’re going to find an opportunity to help our family with this and also to finally enjoy retirement,” her husband added.

There was another duo in Queensland feeling overwhelmed after the draw.

The brothers from Boondall, in Brisbane’s north, are celebrating their win today.

The pair who have been using the same numbers for years said the money was going to help them a lot.

“We can pay some bills and really get ahead,” one brother said.

And there are still some lucky winners who might not be aware of their large lotto prize.
