Netherlands boosts Ukraine with $4.7 billion aid package through 2026

The Dutch government has committed to providing an additional 4.4 billion euros ($4.7 billion) in military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine from 2024 to 2026, according to its official website on April 15.

The Netherlands will also allocate funds to strengthen its own defense.

The country's Ministry of Defense will also receive 500 million euros ($532.5 million) to strengthen air defense and purchase new ammunition in 2028.

These funds will come from unexpected revenue sources across various budgets to help balance the national budget.

Military aid from the Netherlands to Ukraine

The Netherlands allocated a new military aid package to Ukraine on March 1.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, signed a bilateral security agreement on the same day. The document provides for 2 billion euros ($2.1 billion) in aid to Ukraine, as well as assistance in the areas of air defense, artillery, maritime and long-range assets.

Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren announced on March 20 that Ukraine would receive Western F-16 fighter jets this summer. The first planes to arrive will be from Denmark.

A large amount of ammunition will be sent to Ukraine in the near future thanks to the Czech initiative, Rutte said on March 22.

The Netherlands has allocated another 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion) in military aid and 400 million euros ($425.8 million) for Ukraine's reconstruction, Zelenskyy announced on April 12.
