Neighbour's heart-warming note for veteran on Anzac Day

A veteran has received a heart-warming note from a neighbour on Anzac Day to honour his service in war.

The note, which was left sitting on a plate of food at his front door, thanked him for the sacrifice he made for Australia.

“Dear Bob, thank you for serving our country and giving us all this great opportunity we have in this country,” the note read.

“We respect you and thank you and to also who our country lost.

“Lest we forget. Anzac Day 2019.”

A woman, who posted the picture to the Everything Sutherland Shire Facebook Page, said her neighbour left the note for the elderly man who lives next-door.

“She does this a lot for my other elderly neighbour as he lives alone,” the caption on the picture read.

“This really warmed my heart.”

People joined the neighbour in thanking the veteran for his service while also praising the woman’s kind act.

“What an honour to be able to give a very small amount back to an amazing man,” one wrote.

“How lovely so much respect. A good deed never goes unnoticed,” another said.

As Australians gathered across the country to honour fallen servicemen and women, Afghanistan veteran Andy Cullen said nobody could underestimate the price that has been paid by individuals and families.

“Because there are hundreds, if not thousands, who are carrying the physical and psychological injuries and will do for years to come,” he said.

“We must do more to help the individuals and families who suffer.

“It is a sad reminder of friends lost and sacrifices made and wounds that may not heal.”
