Mystery surrounds death of baby twins

Two twin babies have passed away in Mullumbimby, a Byron Shire suburb on the far-north coast of NSW.

NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to a house in the area at 2am on Sunday, February 11.

There, they treated two babies for an unconfirmed condition. One died at the scene, while another later died at Tweed Heads Hospital.

The mother of the twins was also taken to hospital, but her condition was not disclosed.

Emergency services were responding to reports of a concern for welfare when they were called to the house.

Officers from the Tweed/Byron Police District established a crime scene, will provide a report for the Coroner.

Mullumbimby is more than 770km north of Sydney, and 83km south of the Gold Coast.
