Update after man found dead in street
Police are appealing for information after a man was found dead in the middle of a Sydney street early on Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to Fletcher Street in Tamarama shortly after 4am where a man was found critically injured on the road.
Police and paramedics performed CPR but were unable to revive the man, who died at the scene.
Following extensive inquiries, police believe they have identified the man as a 28-year-oldlocal.
The young man was wearing a blue buttoned-up shirt and tanned shorts.
Detective Superintendent Adam Solah said police are investigating whether the incident could have been a hit-and-run, and whether the man was lying on the road when he was struck.
However, Superintendent Solah said they were looking at “all avenues” and have obtained “extensive” footage from the scene.
“We don’t believe the deceased was on any sort of vehicle, it appears that he may have been a pedestrian,” he said.
“The family are obviously very upset and distraught and our hearts go out to them having to find out such difficult news, so they are aware of what’s occurred.”
Officers attached to the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command established a crime scene Sunday morning and requested specialist assistance from the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU).
A blue “Police Rescue” tent has been set up on Fletcher Street.
Motorists are advised to avoid Fletcher Street between Glen and Silver Streets.
Police noted that there had been heavy rain in the area overnight.
Police are appealing for information from the public to establish how the man became injured.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
