Mystery around bones discovered by driver on bathroom break
More forensic tests will be undertaken on human bones found in a national park south of Sydney as homicide investigators try to identify the man.
Tests during a post-mortem exam on Wednesday were only able to determine the sex of the person whose remains were found in the Royal National Park on the weekend.
All other tests were inconclusive.
Authorities were alerted to the bones after a driver pulled over for a bathroom break on Saturday and noticed something suspicious in the bush.
The discovery was made on the 11th anniversary of Matthew Leveson’s disappearance with the bones found 2.5 kilometres from where he was buried.
“We hope that some other family now will be able to find their loved one, be reunited with their loved one,” Matthew Leveson’s father Mark said.
Homicide detectives are expected to lead the investigation into the death.
