Mum regrets sharing heartbreaking photo of her son alone at birthday party

The mother who posted a crushing photo of her son alone at his own birthday party claims she regrets sharing it on social media.

Earlier this week a photo emerged of six-year-old Teddy sitting alone next to a number of plates and pizzas when he was meant to be surrounded by the 32 classmates he invited to celebrate his birthday with him at pizza restaurant in Tuscon, Arizona.

His mum Sil Mazzini posted the picture to Facebook, which soon went viral. Two Phoenix sports teams even offered the boy free tickets to celebrate at upcoming games and people around the world wished the youngster a happy birthday.

But now Ms Mazzini regrets the attention and her partner Ted Bollinger claims he told her not to post the photo.

“He’s six, he was distracted by the arcade games, the pizza, he got over it quick,” he told the New York Post.

“He’s tough. But when Sil told me she was posting [the photo], I told her not to do it, but she did and it took off. It’s pretty wild.”

She said if she could go back in time she would never have posted the photo.

“We don’t want all the attention. We didn’t do this for attention or for gifts or anything. I did it in the moment but I wasn’t smart. I was upset, that’s it.”

Ms Mazzini has now sworn off hosting a birthday party for Teddy next year.

“No we are not. Not anymore, I don’t think so because it’s so much planning for me. I will just take him on a trip,” she told the New York Post.

When posting the original photo Ms Mazzini said Teddy was given the option of going to Disney World or Legoland but he chose to have a birthday party with his classmates.
