Cancer survivor cheats death once again after crashing into kangaroo
A Perth man who survived cancer has cheated death once again after he crashed into a kangaroo while riding his motorbike to work.
While he's now confined to a hospital bed, Steve Peters is just grateful to be alive.
The Dawesville man has been riding down Nambeelup Road for seven years without incident - until Friday.
"A big kangaroo boomer, a BIG boomer, just came out of nowhere and I tried to avoid it," he said.
The 56-year-old was on his Harley Davidson and going at 60 km/hr, with no time to brake.
It was 5.30am on Friday morning and Steve was 800 metres from his place of work when the collision happened.
"It took a bit of bark off my elbow, split my lip and my head, hurt my hip and my knee and my foot, mate," Steve said.
"And the kangaroo kept going, apparently. He got off alright."
Steve's friend was driving behind and saw him come off.
"He's just said to me, 'stay still, don't move' - I'm on the ground and he's come up and he's said, 'Are you alright?'"
There was another serious crash like this one earlier in the week.

On Sunday afternoon, a 48-year -old motorcyclist died after hitting a kangaroo on Bussell Highway in Cowaramup.
One theory could be the recent bushfires, which means local wildlife is on the move.
Steve thought his leg, hip and foot were broken, but they're okay.
He has to stay in a neck brace and not move while he waits for another scan.
"It doesn't take much to take us out, but I've got guardian angels looking after me and I'm very thankful," Steve said of his big boomer encounter.
