A possum has been euthanised after she was found with an arrow piercing her body.

The possum was found in Humpty Doo, southeast of Darwin, according to Ark Aid vets.

“Sometimes it is hard not to lose faith in humans,” the vet wrote on Facebook.

“Her baby will now be hand-raised and we will report it to Parks and Wildlife for them to investigate.

“As she could not have moved afterwards and it is short range we hope the person who did this barbaric act will be found.”

Heartbreakingly, the baby possum accompanying her can still be seen clinging on despite the arrow piercing her chest.

Vets added the possum was still alive when it was found.

She’s since been euthanised as the arrow pierced her lung.
