Mum devastated after two-month-old baby dies following day care stay

A mother is grieving the loss of her two-month-old baby girl who mysteriously passed away after spending several hours at a day-care centre.

Taylor Bush dropped her baby, Di’Yanni Griffin, at Nana’s Home Daycare in Cleveland, Ohio, on Tuesday (local time), along with her three other brothers, news channel Fox 43 reported.

Owner of the in-home daycare centre, Danielle Townsend, said she received a text from Ms Bush about 2pm saying she would collect her baby for a doctor’s appointment.

Minutes later however, Ms Townsend received a call from her sister, who had been left in charge of the day-care centre, saying the child’s breathing had quickened.

Ms Bush arrived shortly after, picked up her daughter, and took her upstairs to her apartment above the day care.

The next time Ms Townsend heard from her sister, she had called to tell her an ambulance had arrived and paramedics were performing CPR on the baby.

“I still feel like I’m going to wake up and this is going to be a dream,” Ms Bush told Fox 43.

She said her baby was unresponsive when she arrived at the centre, despite Ms Townsend arguing the baby was breathing when her sister handed her over.

Ms Bush said she immediately called emergency services, but despite their desperate attempts to revive the child, the child could not be saved.

“They could not find a pulse for my daughter at all, I begged them to keep working on her because they already pronounced her dead,” Ms Bush said.

Following allegations the day-care centre failed in its duty of care, Ms Townsend argued the child was alive when she was given to Ms Bush.

“The baby was breathing when she gave Taylor Bush the baby. The baby was never dead. The baby was never cold. She was breathing fast,” Ms Townsend said.

An investigation has been established to determine if the day care was in breach of its licence at the time of the child’s death.

The exact cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
