The victim of a dog attack has spoken about the terrifying moment he thought he would lose his hand after his family pet turned on him.

An Adelaide man has recounted the horrifying moment he thought his family dog would rip his hand off in a terrifying attack.

Two siblings have had to undergo multiple surgeries after their family dog, a Sharpei-Pitbull cross named Caliche, began attacking them after an argument at a Brompton home.

Clifford had been visiting family when the dog turned on him, saying that he thought his hand would be left permanently damaged from the attack.

“Just the way he was mauling on my arm, on my hand, it looked like he liked it like he wanted more...I thought I would lose my hand,” he told 9News.

Video inside the home shows the room and hallway where the attack happened covered with blood, handprints smeared on a mattress and door handle from where the siblings tried to fight off the attack.

Clifford was forced to use a lighter to get the dog off him while his sister poured boiling water on the animal for it to stop attacking.

“Remember his eyes and his face and that look on him, it was like an evil look,” he said.

“I’m a 40-year-old man and he scared the s--- out of me.”

His sister remains in Royal Adelaide where she has undergone extensive surgeries on her arm.

The dog has since been surrendered to the local council to be put down.
