School teacher sacked over racist Facebook rant about Africans

A US school teacher has been sacked after she was accused of sharing a racist rant on her Facebook page, despite insisting her account was “hacked”.

The Mississippi woman Cammie Rone’s social media post suggested Africans who were unhappy living in the US should move back to their home country, local media reported.

“If blacks in this country are so offended no one is forcing them to stay here,” the post reportedly stated.

“Why don't they pack up and move back to Africa where they will have to work for a living. I am sure our government will pay for it! We pay for everything else,” it continued.

Ms Rone, who taught at Batesville Intermediate School, denied writing the post, and told local media outlet WREG her social media posts were usually about “cows, recipes and home improvement stuff, not racism.”

“I think my account was hacked. I keep getting messages about racist posts, but when I go to my page, I can’t see it,” Rone wrote on Facebook.

Following news of the post, parents doubted the former grade two teacher’s Facebook account had been hacked as she insisted, and pressured the school to fire her.

“I don’t feel right with her teaching,” parent Keboni Anderson said ahead of the dismissal.

Parents condemned the teacher for making such controversial comments on social media about race when she taught a school that had a mix of black and white students.

The South Panola School District confirmed Ms Rone was dismissed on Tuesday, shortly after officials became aware of the offensive post.

“Cammie Rone has been dismissed from our employment,” South Panola School district public information director Jeff Eubanks told the New York Daily News.

“She is no longer an employee of the South Panola School District."

The school district’s employee conduct policy states employees were responsible for “promoting a positive environment for teaching, learning and student well-being.”

“With the prevalence of technology and social networking, professional conduct must be maintained in these arenas as well to protect individuals’ rights and the integrity of the institution,” the code of conduct stipulated.

Ms Rone has the right to appear before the school board for a hearing and appeal the decision.
