Missing hikers found safe after four nights in Victorian bush

Two experienced hikers who have been missing in Victoria’s alpine region since last week have been found safe and well.

Trevor Salvado, 60, and Jacinta Bohan, 58, disappeared at Mount Buffalo on Friday, sparking a wide-scale search in recent days.

Emergency agencies expanded what was an already significant search on Tuesday morning, with a team of 150 searchers involving CFA, police, SES, bush search and rescue crews and search dogs.

Just hours after the search resumed, the pair were located by a kayaker at about 11.10am near Buffalo River Road.

They will now both be taken to hospital for observation.

Police, CFA, SES, search dogs and bush search and rescue crews revisited parts of the rugged terrain and ventured into harder to reach areas.

Police say the Essendon couple were due to meet friends for an annual long weekend getaway and were last seen at a caravan park in Bright in their Skoda car on Friday.

The couple was expected to return from a bushwalk at Reservoir Track on Mount Buffalo about 12.30pm on Friday, but did not return.

Their car was found the next day.

Earlier, Jacinta Bohan’s sister, Maria, said the couple had been visiting the area for eight years.
