“The whole front and all the way up to the roof on the drivers side was completely caved in,” first responder Tori Fitton told 9 News.

A woman in her 20s who was driving the van suffered serious broken legs when she was thrown backwards by the force of the collision.

The RAC rescue chopper was deployed to airlift the woman to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment where she is undergoing surgery.

“The impact was that forceful that her shoes got thrown off, they were on the road about five, ten metres from the car,” Ms Fitton said.

“She was gone from the front drivers side and landed all the way in the back of the cab.”

Trapped inside the cab of the truck was a man in his 60s, with firefighters forced to smash their way into the vehicle to free him.

Images taken at the scene show where they had broken through the glass windshield to reach him.

Also caught up in the crash was a woman in her 50s that suffers from a disability, whom authorities also pulled from the wreckage of the van.

“The disabled lady she was getting quite upset and again we were just trying to calm her down and get her to not move so much,” she said.

The pair are understood to have suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
