A whale has been caught in shark nets off the Gold Coast.
The minke whale became trapped in nets off Currumbin on Sunday afternoon.
A Fisheries Queensland spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia Queensland’s Marine Animal Release Team freed the whale about 2.30pm.
“The nine-metre whale was breathing and calm as it was being released and swam away strongly afterwards,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added whales becoming entangled in shark nets is rare with more than 33,000 passing the Queensland coast each year.
