Man's creepy question to woman, 23, before terrifying abduction attempt

A woman was stalked home and attacked inside her apartment building in an attempted abduction.

The 23-year-old woman was followed for at least two blocks in the inner Melbourne suburb of Southbank before arriving back at her apartment on Kavanagh Street about 2am on Saturday, Victoria Police say.

She entered through the carpark and a man followed her in without her knowing before becoming aware of his presence when he stepped into the lift with her.

She had walked alone for about 20 minutes from a nightclub in the city, and didn’t notice a man had snuck into her building behind her, she told reporters, according to news.com.au.

“He took advantage ... he entered behind me but I never felt that. I pressed the button (for the lift). The man came in very quickly and stood in the corner. I was thinking that was strange. I pressed the level (of my apartment) and he never pressed anything,” she said.

She added the man asked her if her name was Clarissa and if she was from Norway, which she replied that she was not, and asked him what he was looking for.

When she got off the elevator at her floor, the man covered her mouth and nose with one hand and used his other hand to clasp her around the waist, pulling her away from her door.

The woman was stalked for two blocks in Southbank before being attacked just outside her apartment door. A CCTV still of a man investigators are searching for.

Police said she managed to struggle to her door handle and open it to alert her housemates, who then came to her aid.

The man – who has been described as being aged in his 20s, thin build, brown eyes, dark eyebrows and clean shaven – then fled the scene.

Investigators are searching for a man in relation to the incident.

They have released video from the apartment showing the man getting into a lift and pressing multiple buttons before leaving.

Police believe the man who wore a black-hooded top, blue jeans, black runners with white edges and a black cap with a white logo could help with their investigations.
