Eurydice Dixon's last moments revealed as killer appears in court
It was just after midnight when Eurydice Dixon died. A stranger with a predilection for rape porn and "emo girls" attacked her as she walked home through a Melbourne park.
The aspiring 22-year-old comedian, who'd pinned a large blue flower brooch in her hair that night, was known for ditching her shoes and socks to enjoy the soft grass soccer pitches beneath her feet on her regular route through Princes Park.
She sent a text to her boyfriend: "I'm nearly home. HBU?"
She didn't realise 19-year-old Jaymes Todd, whose records show a history of internet searches for rape and snuff porn, strangulation porn and "emo girls", had been following her for almost an hour.
Now 20, Todd appeared in the Supreme Court of Victoria for a pre-sentence plea hearing on Thursday, where details of his life and the brutal way he murdered Ms Dixon in June last year, were heard for the first time.
The court was told Todd, who has autism, spotted Ms Dixon at Flinders Street Station, after he'd spent the afternoon drinking alcohol and smoking cannabis. He then stalked her for five kilometres.
Ms Dixon had been performing a gig at the Highlander Bar and was making her way home where she lived with her father and brother - her mother had died when she was seven years old.
As she crossed the soccer pitches, Todd grabbed her from behind by her hair and dress, knocking her to the ground, straddling her with his knees pressed down on her arms.
She fought back, scratching at his face but he held his hand over her mouth to stop her screaming before tearing her clothes and sexually assaulting her.
Todd choked her for ‘five or 10 minutes’
He then pressed his hands on her windpipe, choking her, in his words, for "maybe five or 10 minutes".
Leaving Ms Dixon lying in the park, Todd scrolled through her mobile phone for 10 minutes, using the camera to examine the scratches on his face, before falling asleep on a bench at Royal Park Station.
At 2.50am on June 13, a passer-by found Ms Dixon's cold body, called triple 0 and attempted CPR.
Meanwhile, Todd claims he defecated on a track, using his T-shirt to wipe himself before walking again through Princes Park, where he was directed away by police who had established a crime scene.
Todd handed himself in to police later that day after friends told him his "face was all over the news".
He initially denied being Ms Dixon's killer but later admitted "I did it" after hearing DNA testing was underway.
Defence barrister Tim Marsh said Todd was sexually attracted to Ms Dixon, fitting a certain look he found appealing but argued the Broadmeadows man didn't plan to murder her until the moment of the attack.
The hearing before Justice Stephen Kaye will continue throughout Thursday and Friday.
