Mayorkas testifies before Senate, day after impeachment charges dismissed: Watch live

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is slated to testify before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Thursday morning on the department’s 2025 fiscal budget.

This comes one day after the upper chamber voted to dismiss two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, shutting down the possibility of a lengthy Senate trial, which Republicans had demanded to bring attention to the Biden administration’s record on immigration and border security.

The Department of Homeland Security’s budget includes a request for $4.7 billion for “additional resources to DHS in the event increased migration along the Southwest border exceeds pre-identified encounter thresholds,” according to Mayorkas’s testimony.

The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
