'Too close for comfort': Man's poolside nap interrupted by 'scary' moment

A man’s poolside nap was abruptly interrupted by a wild animal as his relaxing moment turned rather scary.

Dawn Bete, from the US state of Massachusetts, shared video of her husband Matt napping by the pool on Facebook.

As he came to notice the intruder, “he was a little startled,” she wrote.

Video shows Mr Bete lounging in a pool chair while a bear wanders in from an open gate.

The bear briefly dips into the pool water before noticing the sleeping man.

It walks over to him and sniffs his foot before tapping it with its paw. The motion wakes up Mr Bete and the bear, becoming spooked, runs away.

Mr Bete sits up and grabs his phone to snap a photo of it.

On Facebook, people were in shock at the man’s run-in with the animal which some described as “too close for comfort”.

“So lucky it was more afraid of you,” one woman wrote.

Another woman was surprised by how calm Mr Bete appeared.

“I would have been so scared,” she wrote.

Ms Bete said the gate will remain shut from now on.
