Man's bizarre find while snorkelling off a boat ramp

A snorkeller has documented a motorist’s “very bad day” after making a bizarre discovery when diving into a river on NSW’s north coast.

Aussie couple Kev and Adele Hockey, who made the decision to travel across the whole of their native country in 2015, were in Red Rock, 40km north of Coffs Harbour, when they decided to take a dip in the Corindi River on Saturday.

After donning his snorkeling gear, Mr Hockey dived in at Red Rock boat ramp to check out the marine life on offer.

But it wasn’t the array of fish in the clear waters that caught his eye.

The baffled traveller came across a Toyota Landcruiser complete with a trailer at the bottom of the river before taking remarkable images of the SUV.

“Look what I found when I went snorkelling this morning,” he wrote on Facebook as they shared the underwater photos.

“Someone is having a very bad day today,” Mr Hockey quipped while pointing out the keys were still in the ignition.

The couple, who run travel blog Indefinite Leave, managed to track down the owner who revealed he’d been loading his boat on Friday night when the vehicle suddenly slipped down the ramp despite the handbrake on.

“I really felt for the guy, we all make mistakes,” Mr Hockey told Yahoo7 News.

He predicted the cause had been due to a faulty handbrake after discussion with other Landcruiser owners.

Thankfully the couple revealed the owner’s SUV was insured and the insurance company had arranged for its removal.
