Mandy Moore is shedding some light on an iconic early 2000s moment.

The 39-year-old singer and actress appeared on the Tuesday, April 9 episode of influencer Valeria Lipovetsky’s podcast “Not Alone” to discuss her over 20-year career — including the memorable 2003 Vanity Fair cover shoot featuring young Hollywood's biggest rising stars.

Along with the headline “It’s Raining Teens,” the cover featured Moore, Hilary Duff, Amanda Bynes, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Alexis Bledel, Evan Rachel Wood, Raven-Symoné and Lindsay Lohan. In-demand and at the beginning of their illustrious careers, the group of young actresses defined a generation.

Moore told Lipovetsky that there was “a lot of drama” on the set.

“A lot of teenage drama for sure,” she said. “There was a fight over a boy I wanna say between two people, I don’t even remember who. I remember feeling like a real outlier and outsider like, ‘I am not a part of the cool kids club.’”

The This Is Us star also shared that “one of the Olsen twins” had a crush on her boyfriend at the time. “I just remember feeling really cool about that.”

In hindsight, Moore said she and Duff find the whole experience funny.

“We laugh about that all the time,” she said.

Moore continued, “We were such babies then and to think fast-forward 20 years from now… our husbands are best friends. She’s a very, very dear friend to me.”

The star also expanded on her friendship with Duff, saying, “We have all these kids and kids running around. Hilary is just like ultimate mom goals in every sense. She is the most incredible mother and businesswoman and she does everything with such grace.”

“One day we’ll be able to show our kids like, ‘Isn’t this so funny, we knew each other back then and now look at us.”

Over the years, Moore’s fellow Vanity Fair cover stars have revealed that it wasn’t all smiles on the set of the photo shoot.

When discussing career highs in her March 2022 lie detector interview with Vanity Fair, Duff said the 2003 shoot was “anxiety-inducing.”

"Explain career high," she said. "Like personal high or just like a big achievement? I remember being like, 'This is cool I was included in this,' but no, this was a very high stress, anxiety-inducing day."

"Also, Mandy [Moore] and I are great friends now, so this is very funny," the How I Met Your Father star added.

In 2014, Wood shared that she was “almost in tears” after the Vanity Fair shoot.

“They tried that dress on me, I wasn't comfortable but they told me there was no time cause everyone else took up too much time with their fittings," she recounted in a series of tweets from her since-deactivated Twitter account, which were captured by Daily Mail. "Then I was given a choice on whether I wanted to wear flats or heels. I chose flats and was immediately handed heels and told they looked better."

She continued, "Then we were all lined up, stared at and approved. I was 15 and felt for the first time my identity being erased and the pressure to shut up and do what you are told. I felt like meat. Since then, I have found my voice. Never again.”

In a follow-up post, the Westworld star added, "Side note, I have shot the cover of Vanity Fair since and had a much different experience. It was quite lovely."
