Man with sword and axe carjacks mum and terrified children

An armed carjacker who threatened a mother with an axe and sword while two children were in her car has been captured.

The Brisbane woman had parked in a cul-de-sac in Brisbane’s Chermside West on Wednesday afternoon after a post-school outing to buy dresses for her little girl.

In CCTV footage released by Queensland Police, the woman can be seen loading the young girl into the car, followed by the older boy.

Seconds later, a stolen Mitsubishi comes tearing into the Chermside West cul-de-sac, its driver ambushing the terrified mother with a sword in one hand and an axe in the other.

The 24-year-old man then approached the 35-year-old mother and demanded her keys.

“Get them out, get them out,” he shouts, demanding the mother unload her children.

As they escape, he dumps bag after bag of his own possessions onto the front passenger seat.

Police laid tyre spikes in a bid to stop the man at Carina but he carried on, driving into oncoming traffic before finally stopping at Eight Mile Plains.

A Queensland police spokesperson told Yahoo7 News no charges had been laid yet.
