Man stung by deadly jellyfish at popular Queensland holiday spot
A man has been airlifted to hospital after suffering an Irukandji jellyfish sting at a popular holiday spot on Friday afternoon.
The patient, in his 20s, was stung by the potentially deadly jellyfish on his foot at Fraser Island, according to a RACQ LifeFlight Rescue statement.
He was swimming on the eastern side of the island at the time.
The man was treated at the scene and taken to Hervey Bay Hospital in stable condition.
According to a paramedic on board the Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter, the man’s symptoms indicated he had fallen victim to the extremely venomous jellyfish.
RACQ LifeFlight Rescue says it has airlifted six other patients from Fraser Island with severe marine stings in the past two weeks.

“All our cases of stings have been on the western side and all our dragging that we do over this period, over the summer period we do on the western side,” lifeguard Ben Davis said.
Lifesavers may now do jellyfish drags on both sides of the island.
