Man rushed to hospital after major crash

A man is in critical condition following a crash involving a truck which has caused a massive gridlocked on a major motorway.

Emergency crews Emergency services were called to the M4 near Greystanes, past the Cumberland Highway, to reports a truck driving eastbound drove through the barrier on the westbound lanes, hitting multiple cars about 3pm on Friday.

It’s understood the truck hit multiple vehicles after crashing through the concrete barrier.

The driver, a man in his 40s, was trapped before he was rescued by emergency crews.

He was flown to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition with severe head injuries.

The crash has caused heavy traffic on the M4 at Wentworthville, with motorists being warned to expect lengthy delays.

All westbound and eastbound lanes of the M4 remain have since reopened however motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Motorists are urged to use the Great Western Highway and allow plenty of extra travel time.

“Traffic is very heavy in both directions,” Sydney Live Traffic stated.

“Westbound motorists are advised to avoid the area, delay their trip or use the Great Western Hwy instead.”
