Man on the run after stolen car crashes into couple's Sydney bedroom

Police are searching for an unknown driver who smashed a stolen car into a bedroom in Sydney’s west in the early hours of the morning.

A couple asleep in the bedroom were uninjured, yet shaken after the incident and the building has “sustained significant structural damage”, according to NSW Police.

NSW Traffic and Highway Patrol officers tried to stop a red Mazda 3, driving with its headlights off in Penrith at around 2.20am Sunday morning.

Police saw the car being driven from a home in Coreen Avenue.

When the car neglected to stop police pursued the driver, who was going more than 100km/h in 50km/h streets.

Police said they eventually lost sight of the Mazda and a perimeter was established to find the car.

The car was found just over a kilometre away in Kareela Avenue, where the vehicle had crashed into the home of the couple.

By the time police arrived, thee driver had already fled. Police are trying to determine the identity of the driver, and whether there was anyone else in the car at the time of the incident.

Inquiries found the car was stolen from a home in Coreen Avenue, where personal items were also taken.

Investigations are continuing and the car has been seized for forensic examination.

Police are appealing to the public to come forward if anyone has information that may assist the investigation.
