Man lucky to survive horrific collision with log truck

A driver has escaped with only minor injuries after logs from a truck in front of him pierced through his windshield and out the back window.

In an incredible twist of fate, the man had coincidentally leaned down to pick something up when the giant pieces of wood impaled his car in Whitfield County, in the US state of Georgia, CNN reported.

Up to 40 logs had to be cut away from the car in the October 12 accident, before firefighters were able to reach the driver and free him, Whitfield County Fire Chief Edward O'Brien told the publication.

The rescue, once the logs were cleared, took about 15 minutes Mr O'Brien said.

He recalled how a gap in the logs created just enough space for the man’s head to fit.

“It was as if it was almost created just for his head,” he said.

Photos of the dramatic rescue were uploaded to the fire department’s Facebook page the same day and attracted nearly 3,000 comments and were shared more than 19,000 times.

Ordeal compared to Final Destination scene

Many people expressed how shocked they were at the man avoiding serious injury in the messy collision.

“All I can think about is Final Destination. This person was truly blessed to escape with only minor injuries,” one person wrote in a comment.

“How in heck did they have only minor injuries? That’s crazy. But wonderful news,” another said.

Others wondered what had drawn the man’s attention away from the truck and kept him from stopping in time to avoid colliding with it.

“I'm glad about minor injuries, but how? I mean that looks like immediate death,” someone said.

“Hard to believe the driver survived but my first question would be why was he following close enough to the truck to even cause this to happen?,” another person wrote.

A man who claimed he was the driver of the truck said he had spoken with the injured man following the accident.

“I have talked to the other guy in the accident. We both know what happened, I’m just glad he is ok. He even cut up and made jokes on the phone,” he wrote in a comment.

“Sounds like a pretty good guy to me. Anyone else would have been trying to put the blame on the log truck.”
