The male truck driver received life-threatening injuries and was treated by first responders, however, could not be revived.

The train driver was uninjured and it is believed the train was not carrying any passengers at the time of the collusion.

A witness who was at the scene before emergency services arrived told the Geelong Advertiser people rushed to aid those involved in the collision.

“It happened very quickly... people started running over from job sites nearby (to assist),” she said.

The incident has caused the Geelong and Warrnambool services to be suspended with coaches replacing trains until further notice, causing major disruption for morning commuters.

It is unknown how the train and truck collided into one another, with a police investigation underway.
