Update: Housemate dead after noise dispute
A late-night noise dispute at a Cairns share house has ended with one man dead and his housemate charged with murder.
A murder investigation is under way after a man in his 50s was found with stab wounds to his back at a White Rock home on the outskirts of Cairns.
A 66-year-old man – who also lives at the home – has been charged with one count of murder this afternoon.
“Investigators will allege the 66-year-old Cairns North man stabbed the victim, a 57-year-old White Rock man, several times at a Hollywood Boulevard address following a verbal dispute,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said.
Police and ambulance were called to the share house around 1.30am after reports a man had been stabbed.
Police said they took the Cairns North man into custody “without incident”.
He has been denied bail and will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Witnesses described hearing screaming and yelling in the neighbourhood during the early hours of the morning.
“We do have information that those two parties were arguing a number of times during the night and then into the morning about noise emanating from the premises,” Inspector Chetham said.
Paramedics arrived on the scene first and tried to revive the man, however, he died at the scene.
Police have begun interviewing residents in the local area and are asking anyone with information who can assist to come forward.
