Man electrocuted a day after his wedding while trying to save a stranger

A Good Samaritan is fighting for his life after he was electrocuted while trying to save a stranger in danger.

About two weeks ago Brandon Gann courageously tried to help a man out of a canal in Oklahoma City in the US when he was shocked.

Wesley Seely, 23, had fallen into the Bricktown Canal after a light pole he was leaning against collapsed, pushing him into the water.

Oklahoma City Police said the man attempted to grab the pole to help himself out but was electrocuted when he touched live wires.

Mr Gann then jumped into the water to help save the man but was also electrocuted, 5 News reported, and could not save Mr Seely.

Mr Gann had been married just a day before the incident on September 30 and he and his new wife were getting ready to fly to the Bahamas for their honeymoon.

On a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for Mr Gann, friends said they were not surprised he risked his life to help the stranger.

“That’s just the kind of person he is,” they said.

Family and friends are hopeful he will recover and his wife Taylor Gann said he would require extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for five to 10 days.

“We are really just waiting on his lung to heal,” she wrote on Facebook.

“There is nothing more that they can do but give him antibiotics and wait.”

He is hooked up to a ventilator so doctors can continue to exercise his lungs.
