A man has been shot and killed after a YouTube prank went terribly wrong.

Timothy Wilks, 20, was shot and killed in the carpark of an Urban Air indoor trampoline park in the US state of Tennessee on Friday about 9.25pm local time.

Witnesses told detectives that Wilks and a friend were participating in a “prank” robbery as part of a YouTube video when they approached a group of people with butcher’s knives.

It’s alleged one of the people in that group shot Mr Wilks out of concern for his safety.

Police claim the man admitted to shooting Mr Wilks.

No one has been charged over the death and an investigation is ongoing.
