Witnesses reported the victim was dragged from a car and stabbed in the carpark at the Gold Coast radiology unit at Santa Barbara Drive, next to Hope Island shopping centre.

The Courier Mail reported the weapon used was a “large-bladed knife” and it was allegedly plunged into the victim’s chest.

Witnesses told reporters the pair were seen drinking together at the Boardwalk Tavern restaurant before the alleged attack.

Emergency services desparately worked on the victim, but he died at the scene.

The violence triggered a major police operation in the city, with officers swarming the Sanctuary Cove Golf Club in search of the allegedly armed offenders.

Queensland Police confirmed it had launched a homicide investigation and asked witnesses to come forward.

A visitor to the golf club said police guarded the entrance to the building while they were in lockdown.

Anyone with information is urged to immediately contact police.
