Man crushed by garbage compactor in terrifying freak accident

A man has suffered serious injuries after he fell into a garbage compactor.

Scott Walsh, 22, was reaching down a garbage chute at a Denver apartment building to retrieve a friend’s phone on the weekend when he began to fall, The Denver Channel reports.

Mr Walsh’s friend Liz DiSalvo said he fell head first down the chute.

“When he fell down it activated the compactor and he was in there I would say approximately five minutes,” Ms DiSalvo said.

Matt Johnson, another friend of Mr Walsh, said no one knew there was a compactor at the bottom.

The machine partially crushed the 22-year-old’s head, torso and lower body.

Both his legs were broken and skull fractured in two places. Arteries in his neck also ruptured.

Ms Johnson said he witnessed his friend step out of the garbage compactor.

“It wasn’t a very good scene,” he said.

“He’s very lucky to be alive.”

Ms DiSalvo has started a GoFundMe page to help Mr Walsh in his recovery.
