Man charged with allegedly choking 10-month-old baby

A man has been charged over a suspected domestic violence incident after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman and attempting to suffocate a baby in Sydney’s west on Sunday.

Police from Quakers Hill Police Area Command were called to a house on Elgin Street, Schofields, about 12:30pm yesterday after reports of a domestic-related incident, police said in a statement.

A 22-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene. A crime scene was established and investigators were making inquiries about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The woman and child were taken to Blacktown Hospital for assessment and have since been released.

The man was charged with three counts of intentionally and recklessly choking a person and two counts of sexual intercourse without consent.

Police will allege in court the man attempted to suffocate the 10-month-old child twice. It will be further alleged he choked a 25-year-old woman and sexually assaulted her twice earlier that day.

He is due to appear in Blacktown Local Court today.
