Man charged with stealing after online date impales himself in balcony fall
A man has been charged with stealing from a Sydney unit where another man fell from the unit’s third-floor balcony and impaled himself on a table leg.
Surry Hills detectives believe the 37-year-old victim had met up with the man earlier through a dating app.
But just before 4pm on November 4 police were called to the unit block in Brisbane Street where the Swedish/American national had fallen three floors from a balcony onto the ground-floor patio.
He remains in a critical condition in the intensive care unit at Sydney’s inner-city St Vincent’s Hospital.
Following inquiries, detectives attended a home on Railway Parade at Macquarie Fields on Wednesday when they arrested a 27-year-old man.
It is alleged the man stole items from the unit following the man’s fall.
He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with steal property in a dwelling-house.
The man was also charged with larceny following the theft of items from a unit on Castlereagh Street in Sydney’s CBD in October.
He has been refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court later on Thursday.
