Man charged over Bondi arson attack

A second man has been arrested over his involvement in an alleged arson attack that significantly damaged a Sydney home.

Emergency services were called to a home on Wilga St in Bondi following reports of a fire at about 12.20am on November 23, 2022,

While Fire & Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, it caused significant damage to a home and adjoining property.

There were no reports of injuries and the home, while occupied, was vacant at the time of the fire.

Adjoining houses were also cleared by police as a precaution and officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was subject to forensic examination.

State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad Arson Unit then took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Promethium.

Initial inquiries suggest the incident was linked to another fire at the same home which was reported just days earlier, on November 17, 2022.

Detectives have already charged a 37-year-old man for his alleged involvement in the two incidents.

He remains before the court.

On Thursday, following extensive investigations, detectives arrested another 37-year-old man at Parramatta Police Station.

“He was charged with one count of destroy property in company use fire and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity,” a NSW Police statement read.

“Police will allege in court the man was driving a vehicle involved in the second arson attack and is a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang.”

The man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Friday.

Investigations under Strike Force Promethium continue.
