Man charged with 'bashing war veteran with baseball bat'
Police have charged a man over a violent crime spree in which he allegedly bashed a war veteran after driving his ute through the 69-year-old’s bedroom.
The accused, Sameh Demitry, is under heavy police guard at Royal Perth Hospital with a head injury.
Unfit to attend court, he had a bedside hearing on Thursday.
The 38-year-old allegedly smashed his ute into the war veteran’s Rockingham house on Wednesday morning.
Police say he then hit the victim over the head with a baseball bat before chasing the victim’s wife through the house and ransacking the kitchen.

Officers have described the alleged crime spree as “manic”.
They say Demitry damaged three other homes and reversed into a car before taking himself to a GP in Balga, covered in blood.
Police allege all the victims were strangers to him. Demitry is now facing 12 serious charges.
