Man catches 'giant goldfish' with unusual bait

A fisherman couldn’t believe his eyes when he reeled in a giant goldfish after hooking it with an unconventional bait.

Last weekend Hunter Anderson cast a line into a pond known to contain large koi and goldfish, but he didn’t have any bait on him.

So the man, from Kentucky, used some leftovers from an American take away chain – a piece of Lee’s Famous Recipe biscuit, which is similar to what Australians know as a scone.

The monster goldfish or koi, which Mr Anderson estimated to weigh around nine kilograms, put up a struggle, but took the bait, he told Fox News.

“This fish was different. It was one of the hardest fighting fish I’ve ever fought. It never ever wanted to give up” he said.

“But I did and I was screaming and jumping up and down as I had never seen anything like it.”

His sister Cassie shared a photo of her brother holding the huge catch to Facebook last Sunday.

“What you are witnessing is NOT national geographic! It is not a stolen image or edited photo! This is my brother!! Who is holding what could possibly be…. that pet goldfish we flushed when I was 9!!!” she wrote.

After posing for the photo Mr Anderson said he released the giant back into the pond where it swam away.
