Man bashed with plank of wood after standing up against gang of hoons

A man has been violently bashed after standing up against a gang of hoons in Melbourne’s north.

The man, who hasn’t been named, was filmed arming himself with a baseball bat against a group of young men in Roxburgh Park on Sunday.

Neighbours said the group of men have been hooning down the streets on trail bikes for months.

The man armed himself to scare them away while his partner filmed on her phone.

At first, the group can be seen keeping their distance.

The man chases away one hoon on a bike with an air swing of his baseball bat.

The group and the man exchange words, the man shoves one of the gang away, suddenly the group pile up on him, taking him to the ground.

Another man then runs in with a plank of wood and strikes him in the head.

Neighbours step in and the group flees, but the man is left on the ground bleeding as his partner rushes to him.

Clothing was used to stem the bleeding before he could be taken to hospital.

The badly injured man’s partner claims she only narrowly avoided being seriously injured.

“He swung the bat at me,” she said. “He was going to hit me and then the others started running to the car.”

She said she was “over” the gang doing dangerous stunts and burnouts around the neighbourhood.

“They just go around ruling the streets,” she said.

“They think they can do what they like when they like.”

One of the weapons used during the attack was the leg from a dumped piece of furniture.

The attacker used the end with exposed nails to swing at his targets.

It’s believed that the wanted men are aged in their late teens or early twenties and are of Middle Eastern backgrounds.

It’s suspected they live in Roxburgh Park.

Police are investigating but have yet to the track them down and haven’t found their silver Holden Astra or the trail bike.
