Man who attacked police officer with samurai sword 'blames marriage breakdown'
A former boxer found guilty of attempted murder for attacking a Perth policeman with a samurai sword has blamed his marriage breakdown for causing him distress.
Constable Andrew Swift was left with a fractured skull in the incident, which occurred in July 2017.
The accused, Milos Radovic, had earlier claimed a “muscle spasm” caused him to drop the sword.
On Tuesday his lawyer told the District Court that Radovic’s “life had fallen apart” after his marriage break-up and that he is remorseful for what happened.
The judge warned Mr Radovic he is facing a long jail term.
Mr Radovic previously faced the Rockingham Magistrates Court in 2017.
WA Police said the officer had suffered a large head wound and needed numerous stitches after the assault at a Rockingham home, where they were responding to a domestic violence incident between a man and a woman.
They alleged Mr Radovic had left the home before police arrived but returned and attacked the officer.
Mr Radovic was tasered and later charged with a string of offences, including intent to maim by unlawful wounding and two counts of breaching a violence restraining order.
Sentencing has been adjourned until next week.
