Man arrested after woman dies, man stabbed in NSW

A man who allegedly stabbed a woman to death and critically injured another man on the NSW far south coast has been arrested.

A large-scale police hunt began on Friday afternoon after the man and woman were attacked in their home on East Street at Bega about 3.30pm.

Police said the woman died and the man was airlifted to Sydney in a critical condition.

Following the incident, a second man was struck with a hammer during the carjacking of a vehicle on the Sapphire Coast Drive in Bournda.

He was taken to a Sydney hospital and remains in a critical condition.

NSW Police warned residents along Sapphire Coast Drive at Bournda to stay inside as they searched for the offender.

The 20-year-old was arrested about 8.20pm and taken to Bega Police Station to be interviewed.
