A man who allegedly filmed women using a disabled toilet at a Perth university has faced court for the first time.

Police allege between August 2023 and February this year Didier Loic Labonne, 28, used a stolen key to access the service area behind the toilet at Notre Dame University and used a mobile phone to record women using the facility.

Mr Labonne appeared in Fremantle Magistrates Court on Monday charged with three counts of unlawfully installing a surveillance device, three counts of trespassing and one count of stealing as a servant.

He was charged by detectives from the Child Exploitation Operations Unit in February after the alleged discovery of a mobile phone in the university toilets.

“The accused ... was previously employed by an external contractor delivering hygiene services to the university,” police said at the time.

He was not required to enter a plea to the charges and is due to reappear in court on April 29.
