A search for a light aircraft in Kent after reports it got into difficulty failed to find anything.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said five fire engines were assisting with the efforts, along with a technical rescue team, with crews using drones to scour an area of woodland off Pluckley Road. Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service was also there.

People were advised to avoid the area while the search continues.

The area being searched was roughly nine miles from Headcorn Aerodrome.

At 6.45pm an update said: “No aircraft has been found following a thorough search in Charing, and crews are standing down. People are no longer advised to avoid the area.”
