A man armed with an axe has surrendered and been taken into custody after a police incident at the Crime and Corruption Commission headquarters in Brisbane this afternoon.

Queensland Police Service confirmed officers responded to reports of an armed man in the car park of a St Pauls Terrace building at 4.20pm on Tuesday.

“A man is currently assisting police with inquires after surrendering to officers in Fortitude Valley this afternoon,” police said.

“At 5.45pm, the man was taken into custody by police who have subsequently located a small tomahawk in the man’s bag.

“No one was injured during the incident.”

The incident occurred at Queensland’s Crime and Corruption Commission headquarters in Fortitude Valley, with multiple police cars seen surrounding the building and police units with bulletproof vests outside the building on Tuesday afternoon.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed it was called to a police incident at about 4.45pm in Fortitude Valley on Tuesday, and that a couple of paramedic units were on standby.

Queesland Police Service said investigations were ongoing.
