A motorcyclist has died and another remains fighting for his life following a collision in Queensland’s Moreton Bay region.

Police say the driver allegedly responsible was found to be in possession of magic mushrooms at the time of the crash.

They say two male motorcyclists, one aged 57 and the other 60, were travelling south on Old Gympie Rd at 5.25pm on Sunday when they were involved in a collision with a sedan driving in the opposite direction.

The younger cyclist died at the scene, while the latter was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.

A 31-year-old Eumundi man, the driver of the sedan, has since been charged with multiple drug-related offences and with dangerous driving causing death.

He was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or a drug, driving while suspended, possessing a dangerous drug (Psilocybin) and possessing a drug utensil, namely a glass pipe.

The driver will appear before the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on May 22.
