A girl missing for six days over Christmas has been found safe and well, police have said.

Lyla-Jane Lake was last seen in Basingstoke, Hampshire, on 21 December.

On Tuesday, her father, Nathan Lake, posted a video urging her to come home, saying: "Lyla, if you're watching this, daddy loves you so much. If anything is worrying you, it's nothing which can't be sorted.

"Please, just come home. You're not in trouble. You've got hundreds of people who care for you, and we all just want you to come home safe. Please."

Residents in Basingstoke had helped deliver leaflets in the local area in the hunt for Lyla-Jane.

Lyla-Jane's cousin, Olympic high jumper Morgan Lake, who had also posted a Twitter appeal on Christmas Eve, said on Wednesday morning after she had been found: "The news we all wanted to wake up to. Thank you to absolutely everyone who helped!"

Hampshire police said: "We're pleased to tell you that 13-year-old Lyla, who was missing from Basingstoke, has been found safe. Thank you to everyone who shared our appeals and contacted us with information."
