Luka Doncic expected to miss a few weeks with ankle injury

The Dallas Mavericks can breathe a sigh of relief. Star guard Luka Doncic will miss some time, but his ankle injury isn’t as bad as it could have been. The 20-year-old Doncic is expected to be able to return from the issue in a few weeks, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

Fans feared the worst after Doncic turned his ankle during 122-118 loss to the Miami Heat on Saturday. Doncic injured himself in the first quarter of the contest. He limped back to the locker room and was ruled out after being examined. X-Rays came back negative. Doncic is dealing with a moderate sprain.

While that’s good news, Doncic will miss some important games for the Mavs. Doncic will not travel to Milwaukee to face the Bucks. He’ll likely miss contests against the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors as well.

At 17-8, the Mavericks sit in third in the Western Conference. Doncic has been a crucial part of that. He’s averaging 29.3 points, 9.6 rebounds and 8.9 assists in his sophomore season.

The team plans to issue another update on Wednesday.
