Lotto winners: Australia's luckiest suburbs revealed

In what state you buy your Lotto ticket could be the difference between becoming a millionaire or missing out on a life-changing windfall.

As we race towards Saturday Lotto’s $40 Million Megadraw on New Year’s Eve, The Lott has revealed the top winning suburbs around Australia for 2022.

By the end of November, there had been 471 division one winning entries across all lottery games, totalling more than $1.4 billion in prize money.

The state with the most major prizes went to Victoria with 142 division one winners taking home more than $394 million. While it was NSW that scored the most division one prize money at $529 million.

It was also Victoria that crowned the most millionaires with 84 taking the title in 2022, four more than in New South Wales. But it was one lucky man on the NSW north coast that took out the biggest jackpot with a $63 million Powerball win in February.

The least luckiest states and territories have also been revealed with the Northern Territory racking up the least division one wins with just six. The NT – with a population of less than 250,000 – also created the lowest number of millionaires with just four. Tasmania, with a population just over 540,000, came in second with only 13 division one wins and five new millionaires.

How does your postcode stack up?

Victorious Victoria boasted four winning postcodes in 2022, with 3150 for Wheelers Hill/Glen Waverley, 3802 for Endeavour Hills, 3109 for Doncaster and 3199 for Frankston each selling three division one winning entries this year.

The same result could be said for Queensland with 4551 for Caloundra, 4207 for Logan VIllage/Eagleby/Windaroo, 4506 for Morayfield and 4740 for Elmeo/Mackay each handing out three division one winning tickets.

While the postcode of 5000 proved lucky for Adelaide with two division one winning entries. Tasmania’s 7250 in Launceston/Newstead also had the same outcome.

In the top end, 830 for Yarrawonga delivered the Northern Territory’s biggest prize from an entry sold in store, while the West Australian suburb of Boulder, 6432, sold the most division one winning entries in the country in 2022 with four.

“We know lottery wins can land anywhere and at any time but in the first 11 months of 2022 we’ve seen pockets of wins emerge in different postcodes and regions,” The Lott’s James Eddy said. “From Darwin to Launceston and everywhere in between, we’ve seen division one wins land far and wide across Australia this year, transforming the lives of players from all walks of life.”
